چکیده

Navigation services for pedestrians are spreading in recent years. Our approach to provide personal navigation is to build a multiagent system that assigns one guiding agent to each human. This paper attempts to demonstrate a design implication of the guiding agent. In the navigation experiment where a pedestrian using a map on a GPScapable cellular phone was guided by a distant navigator, we observed the communication between them by conversation analysis. The result suggests that information required by a pedestrian were the current location, the current direction and a proper route toward a destination. The communications between a pedestrian and a navigator were based on a navigation map or a movement history. When a pedestrian did not understand the map adequately, navigation sometimes failed due to the lack of communication basis.

The hazards of pedestrian mobile-phone use when crossing signalized intersections, Iran (2017); an observational study

Background: Distracted walking is a major cause of pedestrian fatalities. Along with the expansion and popularity of mobile phones, their impacts on pedestrian safety, especially when crossing urban intersections have attracted a lot of attention. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of mobile-phone use on pedestrians’ crossing behavior when passing signalized intersections. Ma...

Use of Earth’s Magnetic Field for Mitigating Gyroscope Errors Regardless of Magnetic Perturbation

Most portable systems like smart-phones are equipped with low cost consumer grade sensors, making them useful as Pedestrian Navigation Systems (PNS). Measurements of these sensors are severely contaminated by errors caused due to instrumentation and environmental issues rendering the unaided navigation solution with these sensors of limited use. The overall navigation error budget associated wi...

Multi-Mode Dynamically Switching Pedestrian Navigation Using Smart Phone Inertial Sensors

—The demand for navigating a user with a hand-held device, especially in Global Position System (GPS) denied environments, has tremendously increased over the last few years. Accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers are the most commonly found sensors in the smartphones that provide Three Dimensional (3D) acceleration and attitude of the phone. Algorithm of pedestrian navigation with smar...

Effect of cell phone distraction on pediatric pedestrian injury risk.

OBJECTIVE Early adolescents are using cell phones with increasing frequency. Cell phones are known to distract motor vehicle drivers to the point that their safety is jeopardized, but it is unclear if cell phones might also distract child pedestrians. This study was designed to examine the influence of talking on a cell phone for pediatric pedestrian injury risk. PARTICIPANTS AND METHODS Seve...

Map Assisted Pedestrian Orientation Detection by Smart Phone

Accurate indoor navigation system based on smart phones has been extensively studied and considered to be of good prospect for the reducing cost and increasing popular rate of smart phones. Dead reckoning method which measures steps and direction of each step is one of the most popular pedestrian positioning methods on the smart-phone platform, and its accuracy is mainly limited by the error of...
